About Novara

Novara Diamonds makes fine jewellery from lab-grown diamonds and coloured gemstones, hand-set in solid 14k gold. Every centre stone carries an independent IGI certificate, and the certificate number is laser-inscribed on the girdle of the stone itself. Nothing is warehoused. Each piece is made to order in five to seven business days.

That is the whole of it. The rest of this page is the detail.

Set by hand, one at a time

A stone is held, checked under a loupe, and seated by a person. Prongs are closed one by one and inspected individually. The piece is cleaned, checked again and photographed before it is boxed.

Hand-setting is slower than casting a stone into place, and it is the reason a Novara order takes five to seven business days instead of shipping the same afternoon from a shelf. The trade is deliberate. The setter who closes the last prong is the one who checks it.

Fixed points

Three things that are not options

Almost everything about a piece is a choice — the stone, the metal, the setting, the size. These three are not.

Certified, not described

Every centre stone is graded by IGI, an independent laboratory, rather than by us. The report covers cut, colour, clarity and carat. Its number is laser-inscribed on the girdle of the stone, so the paperwork and the stone can be matched by anyone, at any point, including years from now by someone who has never dealt with us.

Made when it is ordered

There is no finished stock. Your piece is made after you buy it, which is what the five to seven business days are for. Nothing in the collection has been sitting in a drawer, sized twice and returned to the shelf.

Guaranteed for as long as you own it

A lifetime warranty covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship. Ring resizing is free for the first year. Unworn pieces can be returned within 30 days. None of these are extras, and none of them cost anything.

How a piece is made

Design, source, set, certify, ship

Five steps, in that order. The first four all happen before anything is packed.

01 — Design

Specified

The setting is drawn and specified: metal, profile, prong count, and the exact seat the centre stone will sit in. Size and engraving are fixed at this point, because both change the work that follows.

02 — Source

Selected

The centre stone is chosen against that specification — a lab-grown diamond or a coloured gemstone, cut to the carat and colour the design calls for. Stones that miss the spec go back rather than into the piece.

03 — Set

Built

The piece is assembled and the stones are set by hand in solid 14k gold. Each prong is closed and checked on its own under magnification, and the finished piece is polished.

04 — Certify

Graded

The centre stone is graded independently by IGI. The report is issued and its number is laser-inscribed on the girdle. Nothing leaves ungraded, and the inscription is what ties the two together permanently.

05 — Ship

Sent

The piece is cleaned, inspected and packed gift-ready with its certificate and a care card. Shipping is free, fully insured in transit, and signed for on delivery.

What happens after it arrives

A ring that does not quite fit is the most common problem there is, and the most solvable. Resizing is free in the first year — it goes back, and it returns in your size.

If something is wrong with the way a piece was made, the lifetime warranty covers it: defects in materials and workmanship, for as long as you own it. Normal wear, loss and accidental damage are not covered, but there is always a quote for the repair.

And if it is simply not right, unworn pieces go back within 30 days. The full terms are in the Refund Policy, and delivery and insurance are set out in Shipping.
